new here at |

| A new version of IniMod has been released. Version 1.1 now has the ability to append to values in an INI file, and has a little more error checking to catch invalid file paths. The new Append feature was requested by Paul Saunders. |

| Man!
Having a new baby around the house sure takes time away from
programming. I've been working on a few things here and there, but
those all-night coding sessions are done for the foreseeable future.
The little guy is getting bigger and finally sleeping through the night,
so maybe I'll be able to code a little more often...
Today I'm releasing version 1.2 of InputBox. I received an email from a user who pointed out that the caption wasn't displaying as it should have been when the /M option was used. After a little digging, I found a bug in a 3rd party library that I used in the code. I reported the bug to the authors and coded a simple fix into my program. Wow - I just realized that in 5 more days this site will be 2 years old! I think we should celebrate! I know! On February 4, 2003 all the software on my site will be FREE! Well, hey, sounds good anyway, right? :) Maybe we can talk Microsoft into doing the same on their anniversary? |

| Wow!!
The summer came and went, and no updates to this site. Well, ok,
I've been busy riding my motorcycle and hanging out with friends.
Summer just isn't a good time for coding, but I was doing a bit here and
there. Two new programs are in the works, the first is actually now
on the site in it's beta form. Check out Screensaver
Switch if you're looking for a fast, easy way to immediately kick on
your screensaver. Also in "almost but not quite ready to
release" form is a new Text Search & Replace program that will
allow you to automate text search/replace functions across many files and
folders. Imagine being able to search your hard drive for all .html
files and perform multiple text search & replace operations on each of
them in a completely hands off, automated way! It'll soon be
possible... and free!
In other news, in about 2 weeks I'm going to become a Daddy. From what I've been told, I'll have no time to code after the baby comes, so I'm going to do my best to get the coding done before my free time drops from little to none. Wish me luck! |

| Quick update - I have a new Email address: dgood@psea.org. The old address at mail.psea.org will no longer work. |

| Happy
Independence Day! New updates to what have probably become my two
most popular programs - EnvRep 2.2 Beta 5 and
Shortcut Creator 1.2
Beta 3 are now available for download. Both programs are using a new
version of my SmarToken engine for variable replacement. This new
engine has a lot of new variables, as well as many bug fixes. One of
the nicest addidtions to the new engine is the use of WMI (Windows
Management Implementation) code. This allows access to really cool
stuff, including the PC Serial Number!! Think of all the cool uses
for that, SMS users! WMI functions are only built into Windows ME, 2000,
and XP, but you can add a driver to 9x and NT to allow them to
work. As of right now, only a few WMI SmarTokens exist.
(PC Serial Number, Model, and Manufacturer) but more are coming. Aside from the new SmarToken engine, EnvRep now has the ability to write out an INI file containing all the SmarToken data. This gives yet another option for getting the data you need into other apps and programs. Shortcut Creator hasn't changed too much. I did fix a bug that prevented the #APPDATA# token from getting translated correctly. A few more system folders are now available via the new SmarToken engine. Stay tuned - more updates are in the works. There's no ETA yet (one of the benefits of not being paid is that my schedule is up to me) but things are coming along -- including our baby, who is due in October. After (s)he comes along, updates might be few and far between. At least that's what I'm told. :) |

| Two updates
to mention. I finally got around to posting the latest beta of
VidRes 2.0 on the page. If you're using version 1.0 toss it, cause
2.0 is much better even as a beta version. Too much new stuff to
list; but you can now set it up to change resolutions with a single click,
and you can customize the program to show only the modes you use
most. The other program I just updated was MsgBox. This popular little gem hasn't been updated for over a year, so it was due. Now you can have it display a text file as the message, to make formatting the message much easier. I also updated the documentation to reflect the new web page, and made a couple other minor tweaks as well. There are a few other new programs in the works, whether they'll ever get finished enough to be posted here remains to be seen. My wife is 5 months pregnant with our first child, so there's a lot to be done around the house, and coding is one of the areas that tends to suffer when a time crunch is on. But I'll do my best. :) |

| Due to a change of Internet Service providers, the OTB Web Site has moved to a new host. JiZang.Com graciously donated the web space required to host this site. As such, I've added two advertisements to the main page for JiZang.Com. Please consider using JiZang.Com if you're looking for Web Hosting services. |

| OK, a long overdue update to EnvRep was just released. I added a few variables, fixed a few bugs, and made a few tweaks to keep the program running smoothly. Soon to follow wilkl be an update to Shortcut Creator, to address a couple bugs that were found last week. Stay tuned... |
| December 17, 2001 |
| It's almost
been a month since I've gotten around to updating this page.
Actually, that's not a bad thing -- cause I've been spending more time
coding than updating. VidRes got put on hold. It's about 99.9%
ready for release, but I want to check it over a bit yet before I let it
go. However, I did completely re-write IsAdmin,
adding in a number of customization switches to make it easier to
use. This was suggested by a Toby Grey. Unfortunately, I was
unable to email him - the mail kept bouncing, but his ideas were great and
have made it to code. Thanks Toby!
Another program, Shortcut Creator, was also updated to version 1.0 final from 1.0 beta. The only major change was the ability to create the entire folder path to a shortcut if it didn't exist. This was suggested by "Aloisia Vonotar", a Civilization III fan who uses the program for installing custom maps in the game. I believe that's about it for the updates for now. Greetings to all the Gnomies whom I expect will be showing up here any day now. :-) |
| November 23, 2001 |
| Added a new program, IniMod, to the downloads page. This one allows you to script the editing of INI files. VidRes 2.0 is now in private beta 5, should be out soon. Unfortunately, it's taken a little longer than I had planned; real life got in the way for a while. |
| November 4, 2001 |
| Updated InputBox
to version 1.1, this update now allows input to be masked with asterisks (aka
"splats"). This is nice if you're using the program to
prompt for the entry of a password. This feature was requested by Jacques
Bensimon. There haven't been many updates to this page recently, and although requests for features are coming in, my coding time has been limited, mainly due to a bathroom remodeling project that was rather unexpected. There will definitely be some new releases in the near future, the next project on the list is a major update to VidRes. That will be coming within a week or so; version 2.0 is in beta testing but one more requested feature needs to be completed and tested yet. |
| August 10, 2001 |
| Shortcut Creator version 1.0 Beta has finally arrived! It took a little longer than expected, but it's finally here. Please note this is a beta release; it's worked fine in my testing, but there could be a few glitches I haven't found yet. Feedback on any problems you encounter with this version would be greatly appreciated. You can download Shortcut Creator here. This addition brings our number of freeware offerings to 19! |
| August 1, 2001 |
| One more new utility for the toolbox! This time the program is called Shortcut Creator. It's a small program that allows you to quickly and easily create or edit Windows shortcuts - all from inside a batch file or logon script! All you need to do is edit an INI file to define how you want the shortcuts set up, then run Shortcut Creator to do the work. It's simple, it's fast, and easy. The program uses Replacement Variable (SmarToken) technology very similar to our EnvRep program. That means you can create a shortcut on every users desktop with one INI file, no matter what operating system they're running! Shortcut Creator will find the correct path to the Desktop, Windows, Program Files, or other folder in realtime. You don't need a different configuration file for each OS you're supporting! I've done the hard part, all you do is edit an INI file and run the program. It's easy - and it's... yup... FREE! [Coming soon!] |
| July 31, 2001 - Web Site Makeover |
| Wow! A whole new look for the web site. Spent some time trying to make everything look a little more professional, so when the corporate buyout takes place I'll be able to get a few dollars more per share. Yeah right. Until that happens, at least the site will be nicer to look at. I also added a Donations page, so if you feel the urge to dig deep and help a starving programmer out... ok, well, I'm not actually starving, but I do need to buy software and hardware upgrades, and that does cost money, and.... just check out the page already. |
| July 11, 2001- New utility: VidRes |
| Another new utility hits the page! VidRes (for Video Resolution) version 1.0 allows you to change the video mode your PC's running in with just 2 clicks of the mouse. This application lives in the system tray, where it's out of the way but always handy. Change from 640x480 to 800x600 or 1024x768 with just 2 clicks of the mouse. This is a great program to have if you're writing software, so you can quickly see how screens look in different video modes. Or, if you share a PC with others who prefer a different video mode, you can customize the PC to your viewing preference in just a second or two. Thanks to June Morhain for this program idea! [Download it here] |
| June 29, 2001 - New Utility: InputBox |
| Announcing a brand new addition to our freeware lineup: InputBox. This program allows you to prompt a user for input, then write that input into a batch file, registry file, ini file, or any text file! InputBox makes it easy to ask for information in order to streamline a process. Download version 1.0 now and try it out. |

Version 2.1 of Shutdown Stopper is released. New in this version is the ability to execute a program when a shutdown attempt occurs. This makes it easier to automate processes if you have a program that attempts to force a shutdown. Now, you can abort the shutdown and use the attempt to kick off another process. In fact, the command executed can change each time a shutdown attempt is trapped. This new flexibility should open a few doors for those doing completely automated installs and software updates. Thanks to Troy Randle for this great idea. Also updated EnvRep to version 2.1. New in this version is the ability to access Clipboard text data so that it can be used in your scripts. Unfortunately the size of the executable almost tripled with this added code, so if you don't need this functionality you may just want to stay with version 2.0. No other bug fixes or enhancements were made. |
| May 4, 2001 |
| Version 2.0 of the Environment Variable Replacement utility has been released. This fixes a bug where text appeared on the screen when it shouldn't have. Also added a bunch of built-in variables that can be used even if they're not set in the environment. This exponentially increases the value of this program. You can now include a MAC address, IP address, and many special Windows folders in your scripts. Plus, you can access the Computer Name and User name variables even if you're running on Windows 9x! Ever wished you could incorporate the current directory or drive into your batch files? You can now! If you use this utility, this is a must-have update. |
| April 4, 2001 |
| Variable Command Line Processor (formerly known as VRBP) version 2.0 has been released. Many enhancements were made, including the ability to fully automate the program. There are more options available for controlling how command line executables are run, and a new Pause feature lets you pause processing temporarily and resume where you left off. The user interface was updated and cleaned up as well, making the program even easier to use. If you liked VRBP version 1.0, you'll love VCLiP 2.0! |
| March 16, 2001 |
| Shutdown Stopper v2.0 released. This revision adds a number of enhancements and improves the interface 100%. The program now runs from the Notification Tray rather than as a window so it doesn't eat up space on the desktop. If you're currently using version 1.0 of this program, you'll definitely want to upgrade. |
| March 5, 2001 |
| IsFileSize v1.1 released. This version fixes a bug that caused an error when the target file was read only. Also has improved error checking, and can handle much larger files than the previous version could. |

Variable Replacement Batch Processor v2.0 is in beta. While it won't be posted to the main page until it's been tested further, I am giving it out to select individuals by request. New features include an enhanced, more standard interface and the ability to launch VRBP from a batch file for complete automation. Updated to make working with config files much easier as well. Email me if you're interested in beta testing this new version. Also noticed that ShellCity.Net has selected four of my programs to be featured on their site. Hop on over there and see what else they've got that might be useful to you. |
| Feb. 08, 2001 |
| Updated WinVer to reflect the name of the newest Windows - Windows XP. Microsoft announced this on Feb. 5, one day after the initial release of WinVer. Just my luck. Also changed the code slightly so make it more efficient and gave it the ability to recognize up to 19 Service Packs on Windows NT, 2000, and XP. |
| Feb 04, 2001 |
| Initial public release of WinVer 1.0, after testing compatibility on Windows 98, Windows NT and Windows 2000. |
